Secondary school and university students need academic skills as well.

There are a number of important academic skills that can be carried into other areas of students life. Others underestimate the time needed and want to give up before they start. If your classes are in 1-hour segments, give each student a sticky note that represents 10-minute blocks of time. They need to listen and make notes while reading a story.

Take into account how long your lesson is when allocating time to students. Task analysis helps students understand what they need to do in order to get a good grade Make a note of which students prioritised the same tasks in the same order. If any of the objectives will need planning or preparation, should they be started earlier in the week? If the students need to reprioritize, they should review how they are reaching their objectives at the end of the day.
