Even the most beautiful structure won’t stand if your foundation isn’t solid. Most storytellers agree that there are 7 key elements to a story.

Resist the temptation to make a perfect lead character. Give him motives for his actions so that he becomes a worthy foe. Depending on the length of the story, you may need some important cast members.

Don’t forget that this is the seasoning, not the main course, if youThoroughly research details about your setting, but remember this is the seasoning, not the main course, if you One way to put readers to sleep is to promise a thrilling story on the cover, only to begin with some variation of: Do this, and what things look and feel and sound like subtly register in the theater of the readers’ minds while they’re concentrating on the action. One perspective character per scene, but I prefer only one per chapter and ideally one per novel, is the rule for determining Point of View. All you can say is what your POV character sees, hears, touches, smells, tastes, and thinks.

Third Person limited is where most novels are written, with one perspective character at a time, usually the one with the most at stake. It is what makes your reader want to continue reading or set the book aside.

Story structures are largely the same, but they are called by different names. Whether you can grab readers from the start and keep them to the end depends on how effectively you create drama, intrigue, conflict, and tension. If everything is going well in your plot, you will quickly bore your reader. If one of them says something that makes the other storm out, it will reveal a deep-seeded rift in their relationship.

If you are an Outliner or a Pantser, you must have an idea where your story is going and think about your ending every day. It may change as you and your characters experience the inevitable arcs, but never leave it to chance. The lead character should be the center stage.

He should rise to the occasion because everything he learns from his trying to fix the terrible trouble you plunged him into should make him. Readers like to be educated and entertained, but they also like to be moved. Click here to read my 12-step process for How to Write a Novel if you want to learn more about the 7 elements of a story.

  • There was a rebirth.

The poor protagonist acquires power, wealth, and/or a mate, loses it all, and gains it back as a result of growing up as a person. The Red and the Black, The Prince and the Pauper, The Ugly Duckling, and The Gold Rush are examples. The Holy Grail, The Lord of the Rings, King Solomon’s Mines, The Divine Comedy, Watership Down, The Aeneid, and Raiders of the Lost Ark are examples.

After going to a strange land and overcoming the threats it poses, the main character returns with experience. The Time Machine, Peter Rabbit, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Third Man, and The Lion King are examples. Anna Karenina, Carmen, Citizen Kane, John Dillinger, Jules et Jim, Julius Caesar, Madame Bovary, and The Picture of Dorian Gray are some examples. Pride and Prejudice, The Frog Prince, Beauty and the Beast, The Snow Queen, A Christmas Carol, and Peer Gynt are examples.

The hero needs to win first bronze, then silver, and then gold objects in order to be considered a winner. Booker puts the narrative of contemporary human affairs into a new perspective by interpreting the mind of God and by analyzing the novel. The work was described as a “brilliant summary of story-telling” by philosopher Roger Scruton and others. The book was dismissed because Booker was too rigid in fitting works of art to the plot types above.

For example, novelist and literary critic Adam Mars-Jones wrote, “Booker sets up criteria for art, and ends up condemning Rigoletto, The Cherry Orchard, Wagner, Proust, Joyce, Kafka and Lawrence, while praising Crocodile Dundee, E.T.”

What are the 7 story archetypes?

  • Taking on the Monster.
  • There are Rags to Riches.
  • The quest.
  • The voyage and the return.
  • There is comedy.
  • There was a tragedy.
  • There is a new beginning.

This could be overcoming an addiction, fighting off a pervvy boss, debt, beating an illness or any other thing that requires something to be defeated for the hero to win.

If your product or service is in this category, you should either play the role of the sidekick that will stick with them or the weapon that will deliver the final blow. This is where a modest and moral character can achieve a happy ending when their natural talents are displayed to the world at large. If your product or service falls into this category, you should play the role of the “Fairy Godmother” that gives the hero just enough to get to the right place and the right time. There are a variety of challenges that are all seemingly unrelated to our hero.

The plot of a comedy involves some kind of confusion that needs to be solved before the hero and hero can get along. We picked up several of the free paint guides that give you a good idea on what colors will go well together, and what techniques to use, instead of thinking we could do everything ourselves. The story is almost always threatening until a sequence of fortuitous events lead to redemption and rebirth, and the restoration of a happier world. The best example of this is “A Christmas Carol” where Scrooge changes his ways in order to not be hated and have a better impact on the world around him.

In the real world, just like in “A Christmas Carol”, your customers may not even know a problem exists until you show them how bad what they’re doing can be. A good business coach will start the rebirth process by shining a spotlight on the problem they may have been ignoring, then spelling out the realities of what will happen if this isn’t fixed. Most people aren’t taking the time to push their customers towards being reborn, even though rebirth is usually at the beginning of epic adventures like “The Quest” or “Rags to Riches”.

What are the 7 literary elements?

The components of a literary work are described in a literary element. These are the technical terms for a work.

How many different story archetypes are there?

The seven story Archetype.

What are the 8 archetypes?

  • A Hero. You are the hero of your own story.
  • A mentor. There is a vital component to the story.
  • The person is Ally. An Ally is needed to help every Hero along the path.
  • The Herald.
  • He was a trickster.
  • Shifter.
  • There are ThresholdGuardians.
  • There’s a shadow.

I have been thinking about how we can apply the character stereotypes that appear in most stories. Don’t forget that the mentor is not a fellow traveller on your journey, they may pop up every now and again to see how you’re doing, but the Hero must defeat the demons.

The Ally is loyal to you, even if it is your agent, flatmate, best friend, or family member. What was the first time you saw something on stage? That is the call to action that prompted you to come on this crazy journey, that is the Herald to me.

The name suggests that The Trickster is a naughty character that upsets the status quo of society or morals. They are catalysts for change, causing the Hero to be uncomfortable, leading them down the wrong path, and they are the ones who expose illusions. The anarchy and chaos of the Trickster reminds you to lighten up a bit and not take things too seriously. I think that the trickster is the one who makes a lot of comparisons between his life and others, forgetting that he is comparing how he feels inside with what someone else is showing on the outside.

They give advice freely, but it can be confusing or dangerous. While always coming from a place of love, my mum’s advice often doesn’t have anything to do with my circumstances. They will test you, forcing you to learn new skills, and then hold you back until you can demonstrate your worthiness to move on.

They are also teachers and guides, holding you back from venturing down a dangerous path until you are properly equipped for it. You can emerge triumphant into the light if you know who is there to help you, who is there to test you and who is there to destroy you.
