Readers don’t have to wade through extra words when you streamline sentences. We lose our readers by using words with which they are unfamiliar and long sentences. You are doing your readers a favor by replacing wordy phrases with shorter ones and by trimming the deadwood from sentences. To improve your computer’s performance, follow the manual’s maintenance program.

The active voice is more similar to how people remember and process information than the passive voice. The hours of staff are calculated by the manager. The actual work load is calculated by the manager.

The risk ofomitting the doer of the action is another reason to avoid the passive voice sentence. Practical exams will be given for backhoes with different operating characteristics.

Studies show that it is more difficult for your readers to understand the meaning when you use negatives. It is a good idea to write your technical documents in short sentences.

If you want your readers to perform several actions, start the step with an active verbs. If the first step was “creating an empty workspace”, then the next step would be “populating it with application source code” and the third bullet point would be “compiling the workspace”. Standard punctuation is expected when your readers read your documents.

When using quotation marks, it is possible to decide where to place your periods, colons, and semicolons.
