Take time to carefully review the job description and look for information about specific objectives the employer is hoping the new employee will meet, then identify the strengths that align with these needs. A particularly gifted sales professional can handle unhappy clients or bring back lost accounts.

Their skill may be their ability to see when someone is unhappy and mobilize a strategy to diffuse and address their concerns. In this case, you could share how your persistence and patience has allowed you to remain calm and collected in high-stress scenarios, despite outside pressures or setbacks.

While employers are looking for interesting skills, they don’t expect you to share something that’s unlike any answer they’ve ever heard. A person’s tastes will influence many of their choices in life, whether it’s what food to eat or what type of people they want to have a relationship with Exploring the different tastes of the world, in all their forms, is an excellent way to expand one’s horizons, learn new things, and continue to develop as a person. The areas of life and endeavors where we invest our time, energy, and effort will influence what we give back and take from the world. When we feel lost or like we are stumbling on our path, short, medium, and long-term goals give us direction and motivation.

Journaling is a great companion to a goal-oriented, growth mindset because it allows you to speak your mind freely, map out exactly what you want, and develop a plan to get there. Understanding your passions can help you find a path that is guided by your values and perception of the world.

My time in retail makes me a candidate with a unique set of skills that have been learned face to face. I am a thorough communicator, excellent listener, take direction well, and excel in a team environment, all skills which I know will fit well with this current administrative position.
