A project is a task that begins and ends in a specific way.

If the nature of our work has changed, it’s important to think about some of the skills that will help us succeed in this different world. Here are nine ways you can help make the projects you work on more successful. You can make better decisions if you understand the result.

If you only see the small part of the project, you may not know how finishing two days sooner can have a huge impact on other things. The effects on the end results could be much longer if you fall behind on one of your tasks.

Break down the big project steps into smaller tasks that you can do yourself. You will be able to stay on track more successfully if you break the tasks down. If a version of this project has been done before, you should look for the lessons learned to improve your results this time. As a starting point, take these nine ideas as a list of things you can do, no matter what role you play.

While the term “teamwork” or “team building” may conjure up visions of company retreats practicing trust falls, in actuality building team morale, trust and productivity doesn’t have to involve pricey trips or clichéd exercises. If you want your team to communicate with each other, work hard, produce strong results and keep the business moving forward, you must lead by example and do the same. Setting aside time for team members to get to know one another on a more personal level will increase mutual trust, respect and understanding.

Encourage team members to speak open, share ideas, make suggestions, and voice their opinions across all aspects of the business Communication is a two way street and employees should feel like they can add to the conversation with their superiors and peers. This will allow people to focus on their task at hand, rather than having to organize and assign work.

Along with establishing clear roles, there should be set team processes in place for working on a project, communicating with each other and providing feedback. Adding incentive and motivation to work together will be provided by knowing where they stand in relation to the outlined benchmarks. Positive reinforcement of a job well done will encourage teams and individuals to keep up their work. Conflict in a team setting can be caused by a communication breakdown or personal issues.

Make these practices and expectations clear from the beginning and handle situations quickly to help a team move on and maintain a good working environment. A sense of personal involvement in the decision-making process will make people feel like they are a part of something rather than just a piece of the puzzle. A project management system can be used to collect and streamline team tasks. Teams can gather information in one place with real time sync across the board with the application.

Give your team time, space and independence to produce work on their own without feeling judged or watched. Specific times where group members are not allowed to send or check email may be set. Traditions are created to bring people together and establish a sense of unity.

When writing a personal contribution statement, remember that you’re selling yourself to the university or institution that you’re applying to. The most important part of the writing process is the personal contribution essay. Do you have any questions about your interests, intentions, experience, accomplishments, goals, and field of study?

To get a good idea about how to structure your own essay, read some examples. Ask this person to look for places where the essay strays from your thesis. The structure, argument and development issues may have been addressed by your peer. On another day, correct the spelling and syntactical issues.
