Task 2 includes an introduction, at least two body paragraphs and a conclusion; in the introduction, rephrase the question and form a thesis statement based on your opinion; and use one topic sentence to start each body paragraph. Each task type requires an appropriate style, which will determine your choice of structures and resources. To learn new words in different contexts, spend time reading different resources, such as ads, articles, manual, magazines, reports and sample models from practice tests, to learn new words in different contexts. The levels C1 and C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages should be changed.

You can learn from the mistakes if you work with friends or colleagues who are also preparing for the exam. Like learning to drive a car, IELTS test preparation requires persistence. A test-taker’s ability to use a good range of vocabulary words clearly, appropriately and effectively is measured. Here, test-takers should use varied sentence structure as needed, and also use correct, appropriate, and clear grammar forms. The rubrics give you an idea of how the scores are calculated.

The score conversion is difficult based on official info from the makers. The official charts of the test makers don’t cover every band. The unofficial online band score calculator is where it comes from. Although this service is not sponsored by the makers of the test, I have found it to be reliable.

Students of mine use the table to predict if they will get a good score on the test. Let’s say you get 4.5 Listening, 6.5 Reading, 7 Writing, and 5.5 Speaking on the IELTS and you want to know how this works. If you add 7 + 7 + 7.5 + 7.5 to your score, you get a score of 29/4, which adds up to 7.25, which is the minimum score for the band 7.5. You can see how the English levels in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages compare to the IELTS bands in the right-hand column.

The standard-level score for Oxford undergrads is 7.0 for the whole test with a minimum of 6.5 for each section, which is what some organizations hope to see on your applications. A 7.5 on the whole exam with a 7.0 in each component is required for all undergrad programs at Oxford. For those minor differences in requirements, applicants should check with the undergraduate programs they are interested in applying to. Grad program requirements can vary a lot at Cambridge, so graduate-level students should check with the program they want to apply to.

For the exact English testing requirements for grad school, check the web page of the program you plan to apply to. A good score on the IELTS can be used by the Australian government. Your scores will tell them if you are competent, proficient, or superior. Excellent: A minimum of 8 in each category.

Extra points will be earned if you are proficient or superior in English. The skilled worker visa in Canada has different requirements for different applicants. A minimum whole-test score of 7.0 is required by graduate students.

In New Zealand, individual schools make their own decisions about the score. For an example of individual university requirements, the University of Auckland requires at least a 6.0 IELTS score for undergraduate admission (with a minimum of 5.5 for each category) and an overall 6.5 for post-graduate work (with a minimum of 6.0 in each category). Many undergraduate and graduate programs in New Zealand have higher requirements, and this is the minimum.

An immigration official may verify that you meet the requirements when processing your application for the work and/or student visa, but you will want to carefully check any program you are interested in at the University of Auckland. Search the New Zealand government’s official immigration website to learn more about the requirements for investors, entrepreneurs, parents, and other types of immigration visas. The requirements for work visas are based on the tier you apply for and how long you will stay. In tiers 1 and 2, for example, those requesting permission to stay must demonstrate a B1 or B2 minimum.

Your immigration can be sponsored by schools and other organizations, but it’s up to them to determine your scores. Depending on the undergrad or graduate program, a good IELTS score can be quite different. Master’s students need a minimum of 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 for all bands, while research degree students need a minimum of 6.0 in each band, though some programs require a 6.0 overall. The U.S. government does not have minimum English requirements for visa applicants.

PhD applicants must have a 7.0 average or higher with no less than 6.0 in each category, while Master’s students must have a minimum overall score of 6.5, according to the University of South California. First of all, you should find reliable, high-quality IELTS prep to help you along the way.

There are no limits on the number of times you can take the exam with the IELTS. If you feel that there was a mistake in your scoring, you can request a revaluation. There is a chance that the uni you applied to may still accept you even if you fall short of the requirements.
